yellow seersucker sundress

Pattern: McCall's 5042

Fabric: pastel yellow seersucker (100% cotton)

Construction Notes: This is a very basic sundress with princess seams and an A-line skirt; in fact, I made a blue one last year (2006) from the same pattern. To modify the pattern, I added self-piping along the neckline and armholes, and I also added a waistband with piping on both edges. To integrate the stripes into the design of the dress, the bodice was cut with the stripes running vertically, the waistband has them running horizontally, and the skirt was cut on the bias so that the stripes are diagonal. I also lengthened the skirt by several inches.

Miscellaneous Ramblings: This dress was inspired by some of the ones J. Crew has been coming out with this season. They're cute, but oftentimes strapless (I intensely dislike strapless gowns) and in the hundreds of dollars price range. Obviously I can make a better and less inexpensive one myself. :) This pattern is nice, but the next time I make a dress from it, I'm going to cut it a size smaller -- the amount of ease is just ridiculous!!
