white voile Regency gown

Pattern(s): Sense & Sensibility's Elegant Ladies' Closet Pattern

Fabric: white cotton voile, white muslin (for petticoat)

Construction Notes: The nice thing about this dress is that there is no back opening -- it slips over your head. The entire neckline is gathered with a drawstring, and the front under-bust seam is also gathered with a drawstring, which slips through the dress at the side seams and ties in the back.

Miscellaneous Ramblings: I've always thought there is something so lovely, delicate, and feminine about sheer white Regency gowns! When we decided to have a Christmas Fezziwig Ball, I knew I'd have to sew a new dress for myself, and so I decided to make one from cotton voile. Because of the sheer fabric, I used French seams on all the seams, and bound the armholes with self-fabric bias tape. I also made a bodiced petticoat to wear underneath, using Mrs. Chancey's instructions.
