Regency costume
Pattern: Butterick 6630 (modified)
Fabric: grey and gold metallic striped polyester, robin's egg blue polyester satin for the trim (I used the dull side), polyester lining, and various trimmings.
Construction Notes: This dress has slashed sleeves, metallic braid trim, and ruching for trim at the bust and under the skirt. (The hemline looks a little wonky in these photos because I hadn't yet sewn it -- just taped it!)
Miscellaneous Ramblings: I made this for Halloween 2005, but really it was just an excuse to try making a Regency costume. Like many young ladies, I have always loved the works of Jane Austen, and I thought it would be fun to try coming up with a Regency-inspired dress to prance around in. :) This dress is not historically accurate, but rather just something I enjoyed dreaming up.
The photos were taken at the home of some family friends. About the same time I finished the dress, I was baby-sitting the kids while their dad was out of town, so I asked him if I could use his house to stage some photos of my new costume. As you can see, he has a lot of nifty antiques. :)
