c. 1931 two-piece suit

Pattern: EvaDress 6690

Fabric: brown herringbone wool with chocolate brown velvet trim

Construction Notes: The skirt has six gores, an inner waistband, and closes with a side placket. The jacket has a peplum, sleeves gathered at the elbows, and overlaps in the front. I lengthened the skirt and sleeves by about two inches, and I also drafted an extra 1/4" onto each pattern piece, so that the seam allowance would be the usual modern 5/8". I lined both skirt and jacket.

Miscellaneous Ramblings: Joy! At last I have a wool 1930s suit! I've been wanting one since my early teens, mostly due to the TV show Jeeves & Wooster. This suit is more "Art Deco" than British country tweeds, however.

Do not, I repeat, do NOT try this pattern unless you have successfully made a lined jacket before, or you have a super-sewing friend to get you out of difficulties. The instructions are practically non-existant and there were times when I had no clue what I was doing. Thankfully my mom helped me out when it came time to sew the lining to the facing.

Problems with the jacket aside, I really like this pattern. The skirt is very versatile and I can wear it with a plain turtleneck sweater for a modern look. I loved sewing with wool, especially when it came time to set in the sleeves! So painless!!
